Ecuador Immersion Trip Reflection

Our time in Ecuador was filled with memories that will last a lifetime. The four ministries that we visited gave us a sense of the needs that are being met by BVMs in partnership with the people of Quito and Guayaquil. We were even able to help with some of the hands-on tasks at the Working Boys Center.

The evening prayer together at the Center was a time of sharing our thoughts and feelings as we experienced some things for the first time, especially in a different culture.  I was especially touched by the simple faith and gratitude of the residents at Damien House, the center in Guayaquil for persons with Hansen’s Disease, that is administered by a BVM and supported partially by BVM Ministry Funds. They gave us small handmade gifts as part of a prayer service they had prepared.

I appreciated the opportunities we had to travel outside of the two major cities, to see what life is like in the countryside and villages of Ecuador. The spectacular scenery that we saw on those trips was unforgettable.

As we worked and traveled and prayed together, our group developed a community of support and care for each other. I’m so grateful that I was able to be a part of this Ecuador experience.
