Associate Theresa Koetting July 18, 1931–April 6, 2024, Accepted September 23, 2002

Associate Theresa Koetting was born on July 18, 1931, in St. Louis, Mo. She lived most of her life in St. Louis and attended Xavier High School there. Her parents were supporters of the BVM Congregation and helped form the BVM Guild in St. Louis. Her sisters were former BVM Ruth Koetting O’Dell (d.) and Associate Mary Rita Koetting (d). Theresa and Ruth were accepted as BVM associates on the same day.

Theresa was known for her devotion to serving people, first in her role as a schoolteacher, and in retirement through her work with Steven’s Ministry and other volunteer activities.  In 2014, Theresa created the BVM associate banner at the request of Associate Coordinator Ann Chaput, BVM. The light blue banner with the BVM associate symbol is still used for associate ceremonies and gatherings when possible. She and Rita made many quilts and then donated them to support the BVM missions in the Bootheel area of Missouri.

BVM Mary Frances Reis shared in her letter of affirmation that “I can see her helping to form a BVM Associate Program in St. Louis . . . using her intelligence and many gifts of the spirit as well as leadership and organizational skills.”
