After twenty-two years, she left the congregation and maintained strong relationships with members of her set and other BVMs. After leaving the congregation, Harriet was blessed to live with her brother George and took care of his three children Mike (9yrs) Saen (8yrs), and Meagan (6 months) whom she referred to as her kids and later Tammi McCormick and Matt Dailey.  Later, she married and joined a ready-made family with adult children and grandchildren.

BVMs Joyce Cox and Margaret Dolan, both recommended her for association citing her deep devotion to BVM Spirituality. On September 18, 2001, Harriet was accepted as an associate. Throughout her many years as an associate, she shared her gratitude to the sisters and associates who maintained close relationships with her including Associates Muriel and Ron Mendonca and BVMs Gwen Farry, Linda Roby, and Theresa Caluori and her very good friends Virginia Forte and Sheila Barnes.   Harriet was known for her creativity, card making, and especially for taking photos at every Northwest Cluster meeting. Frequently as Harriet traveled to cluster meetings in Portland and Des Moines, WA she was accompanied by her dog.
