Malone, Diana sharing of memoriesSister Diana Malone, BVM, 89, died Monday, May 5, 2025, at Mount Carmel Bluffs – Gables, 1160 Carmel Drive, Dubuque, Iowa.
Visitation, the Sharing of Memories and Mass of Christian Burial were on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. Burial was in the Mount Carmel cemetery.
Sister Diana was born May 6, 1935, in Chicago to Raymond and Philomena (Pettimato) Malone. She entered the BVM congregation on Sept. 8, 1956, from St. Callistus, Chicago. She professed first vows on Feb. 3, 1959, and final vows on July 16, 1964.
Sister Diana was a chemistry instructor and department chair at Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa. She also taught at Assumption HS in Davenport, Iowa.
“The Clarke University Center for Scientific Inquiry opened in 2013. With great anticipation of what could be achieved in the new facility, Diana addressed the students. ‘The research facilities’ state of the art instrumentation and faculty expertise are ready for you to realize your dreams and goals . . . You have dreams and the freedom to bring these dreams to fruition. Just do it!’” (Eulogy.)
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Charles Malone. She is survived by cousins and the Sisters of Charity, BVM, with whom she shared life for 68 years.
