Associate Tess Malumphy April 2, 1932 – December 29, 2022, Accepted June 10, 1974

Tess was affectionately called “Dr. Tess” at the University of Northern Colorado where she taught for more than two decades as a Professor of Kinesiology and Women’s Studies. She was introduced to the BVMs through a relationship with one of her favorite students, Betty Voss, BVM. They often hiked the nearby Rocky Mountains while discussing BVM-related topics, spirituality, and philosophy.

Tess was the third person accepted into the fledgling BVM affiliate program on June 10, 1974. She helped write an educational brochure on association during the time when the program was transitioning from affiliates to associates.

She was a tireless advocate for women, especially those who had experienced domestic violence. Tess served for six years for the A Women’s Place Board and helped found the nonprofit Friends of A Women’s Place. During her lifetime, she received many accolades for her dedication as an advocate, educator, and mentor.

In the Spring of 2014, Tess wrote, “I am very, very grateful for the many, many gifts Association has given me. My prayer life has been so enriched, and I have learned how much God loves me, warts, and all! I am truly blessed.” Later that year, BVM Betty Voss shared, “We and she are enriched and supported in our Christian life, by the relationship.”

Tess lived the last few years of her life at the Grace Pointe Senior Care Community with Associate Nancy Van Anne. They enjoyed attending the Cyber Cluster meetings once they could no longer attend BVM functions in person.
