Associate Mary Ann D. Troy August 1, 1941–December 14, 2021

Associate Mary Ann Troy died on December 14, 2021, at Mercy One Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa.  She was born on August 1, 1941, to Andrew and Ivyl (Thor) Brand.

She grew up in Kieler, Wisconsin, graduating from Kieler High School in 1959.  Mary Ann received her degree as a registered nurse in 1962 and worked in various hospitals. Mary Ann met Bill Troy on a blind date and they were married on January 8, 1966, in Davenport, Iowa.  They lived in Ashland, Wis., and Dubuque, Iowa where they raised their five children before building their dream home in Kieler, Wis.  Mary Ann spent over 25 years at Mt. Carmel in Dubuque, Iowa working and assisting the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in physical and occupational therapy.

She was an avid volunteer over her lifetime.  She volunteered in Girl Scouts, as a CCD instructor, a school volunteer, and at Mount Carmel after retirement.  She was an instigator and led Associate Bingo along with her husband, Bill, for many years, which was very popular with the sisters.

She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church where she spent her time serving and caring for others. She always put others’ needs before her own.  Mary Ann had a kind and generous spirit, a great sense of humor, and a deep faith that guided her life. Over the years Mary Ann enjoyed attending all her children and grandchildren’s events.

Mary Ann became an associate in August 1994.  She stated in her application for association, “The sisters are my second family and I love them dearly!”

To celebrate Mary Ann’s life visitation will be from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, December 17, at the Immaculate Conception Parish Hall Kieler, Wis. and on Saturday, December 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the parish center.  Funeral services will follow at 12:30 p.m.  Burial will be in the Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery Kieler, Wis.
