Associate Elizabeth Fitting January 27, 1941 – June 23, 2022

Associate Elizabeth Fitting was born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey and died on June 22, 2022, in Chicago, Illinois, at the age of 81.
Elizabeth came to know the BVMs through Irene Lukefhar, BVM, who she met when she was the Director of the Mountain View Day Worker Center. She made her commitment as a BVM Associate on December 3, 2005. She was accompanied in her discernment process by BVMs Irene Lukefar, Elizabeth Avalos, Bette Gambonini and Marilyn Wilson. Elizabeth served as an Associate Coordinator from 2009–2012. Elizabeth participated in many BVM service projects as well as service trips to Ecuador. She was also very much in tune with nature and owned and worked a farm near Ashland, Oregon, on the Rogue River.
In her application for associate membership, Elizabeth shared, “I would like to become an associate because I admire those BVMs I know and feel an affinity for the spirituality they practice. In addition, I would like to be connected with the BVM community, whose values I understand and embrace. I would like to share the mutual support and sharing of my gifts.”
In her recommendation letter, Irene wrote, “I strongly support Elizabeth in her desire to become a BVM Associate. Elizabeth has often commented on the blessing of community that she has experienced through her friendship with us. I trust that the BVM Community of vowed and associate members will also be blessed by Elizabeth as she helps to foster our BVM Mission.”
Elizabeth is survived by her children Alberto, Malena (Robert), Pablo (Jen), and her four grandchildren.

There will be a Prayer and Sharing of Memories via ZOOM on August 13, 2022, for BVM sisters and associates, family, and friends.

The family is hosting a celebration of Elizabeth’s life on Sunday, October 2, at the Filoli Historic House & Garden.
